My jaw clicks or sticks. Should I be worried?
Jaw clicking, popping, tightness, or occasional locking is something I see regularly in the clinic.
When I hear this pattern in clinic, I start thinking less about hydration… and more about what is happening with breathing and oral posture during sleep.
I wake up with a dry mouth even when I’m drinking water. What is happening?
Could perimenopause or menopause be affecting my mouth?
Dry mouth, clenching, sleep changes, jaw tension and oral health shifts explained properly.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. Since 2013, patients in the UK have been able to see a dental hygienist directly without first seeing a dentist. This is called Direct Access.
At Ohh! many patients attend specifically for prevention, gum health, air polishing and breathing conversations, stain removal, periodontal care, dry mouth concerns, jaw tension and whole-health focused hygiene care.
If anything requires referral or onward support, we guide you appropriately
-
Because oral health does not sit separately from the rest of the body.
At Ohh! we routinely assess:
jaw function
mouth breathing patterns
tongue posture
soft tissues
clenching and grinding
dry mouth
sleep-related patterns
and overall oral health function
Very often, symptoms such as headaches, clenching, dry mouth, poor sleep or jaw tension overlap.
I look at patterns, not just teeth.
-
Absolutely not.
Many patients delay appointments because of fear, anxiety, embarrassment or previous experiences.
At Ohh! there is no judgement, no lectures and no rushing.
We meet you where you are at, explain things clearly, and work together at a pace that feels manageable and supportive.
-
This depends on your oral health, risk factors and goals.
Some patients attend every 2–3 months for ongoing periodontal or prevention support, while others may attend less frequently.
At Ohh! appointments are tailored individually and focus on long-term prevention, stability and whole health, not just “a quick scale and polish”.
-
Yes, they can.
Hormonal changes, disrupted sleep, stress, mouth breathing and jaw clenching can all influence:
dry mouth
gum health
oral comfort
muscle tension
and overall oral function
At Ohh! these conversations are part of your routine care, because oral health is closely connected to wider health and wellbeing.
-
At Ohh! we take a whole-health, patient-centred approach to dental hygiene.
Appointments are unhurried and focus on:
prevention
education
gum health
airway and breathing patterns
jaw function
soft tissue assessment
and long-term oral health support
Many patients tell us it feels more like a healthcare conversation than a traditional dental appointment.
-
Bleeding gums are common, but they are not considered healthy.
They are usually a sign of inflammation within the gum tissues and should not be ignored.
Early support and prevention are always easier than treating advanced gum disease later.
At Ohh! we assess gum health carefully and explain things clearly, without judgement or alarm.
